The Camera Never Lies...

The last thing I do at night and the first in the morning is to cleanse and moisturise my skin. All over.

It’s not a chore – it’s a joy. I can’t imagine being deprived of that feeling of replenishing your skin, allowing it to drink in the moisture-rich creams that make it look almost young again.

Growing older is annoying. Wrinkles and lines seem to appear overnight. I remember arriving to read the news one day on BBC Television and heading, as usual, straight to the make-up room. (As a correspondent you don’t get any pampering – but news presenters have the luxury of a team of make-up artists on hand!
As I peered in the mirror, I noticed a strange indentation just below my left eye. I tried to rub it away.  “Could you just deal with that, please? “ I asked Kate – who could always magic away any blemishes. “It must be a bit of old make-up”.
She looked at me with a mixture of embarrassment and pity. “I’m afraid it’s permanent,” she said quietly.

I can still recall the shock of realising that I was now the proud owner of another wrinkly crease. Well – there’s not a lot you can do to halt the march of time, but I really am a firm believer that looking after your skin is the key to staying younger longer.

It doesn’t have to be a huge palaver. For many years now I have followed a simple routine. The most important part is to cleanse every scrap of make-up away each night. I don’t always use toner but, when I remember, the fresh tingle it gives makes me want to use it again and again. Then – the best bit – I indulge myself in Nurture’s fabulous, silky collagen boosting serum. It feels delicious. Just a few drops does the trick. A quick dab of night cream and – job done.

For an extra touch of luxury I use Nurture’s firming eye cream and eye contour serum capsules a few times a week. I tend to put those round my lips as well!
In the morning – it’s a quick cleanse, some more serum and day cream (plus Nurture’s Daily Face Protector in the summer)…a nifty massage all over with body lotion… and I’m ready to rock.

It really doesn’t take long. If you use Nurture, you don’t have to spend a fortune – and the rewards are immense. When I’m lucky enough to have the services of a make-up artist on any of the TV shows I do, they always comment on how good my skin is for my age (59 this year). Of course, with High Definition TV, there’s no hiding the inevitable wrinkles and age spots but – thank goodness – there seems to be a place for “older women” on TV these days. Our experience and accrued wisdom seems, at last, to be valued. So it behoves us to look as good as we can.

Sleep and hydration are absolutely essential. Older skin can get tired and thirsty. I look a million times better after a good night’s rest, and the hydration must come from inside as well as outside. Drink plenty of water and never be mean with the moisturiser.

And, once in a while, when you have a few spare pounds in your purse – treat yourself to a facial. Tell yourself you’re worth it. Because you are!
